Description	The Irish Society has been formed in Houston, Texas, to provide an opportunity for all to experience the richness and diversity of our Irish heritage on a nonpartisan, nonsectarian basis. The Irish Society is now in the process of establishing an Irish Studies Program at the University of Saint Thomas. The Center For Irish Studies will provide our community an opportunity to appreciate Irish culture and history, as well as to examine current issues related to the Irish and Irish American experience. A long term goal of The Irish Society is the creation of an Irish Cultural Center at the University of St. Thomas affording a venue for cultural, educational and social activities. The Irish Center will acknowledge the enormous contributions of the Irish to the State of Texas, and to Houston in particular, through visual and performing arts events, lecture series, exhibits, and oral and written history programs featuring local families of Irish descent.
