ADVENTURES IN THE UNKNOWN INTERIOR OF AMERICA
Translated and Edited by Cyclone Covey; Published by University of New Mexico
We will present weekly reading assignments and notes to the chapters, as well as topics for discussion. We have divided notes to the historical account of Cabeza de Vaca's adventure in America into the following segments:
1) The Americas
2) Ashore in Florida
3) Back to the Seas
4) Stranded on Galveston
5) Into the Interior
6) Westward
7) Mexico
Read chapters 1 through 5 and note any facts, clues or speculation about the ocean voyage and the landing on the North American coast. Next read chapters 6 through 10.
If you would like to read Cabeza de Vaca's journal of his travels in America, please send us an email and we will return to you a passcode allowing you to review the book on line. The on-line version, Fanny Bandelier's translation from 1905, differs some from Cyclone Covey's recent translation, which we are reading for the Virtual Classroom.
