Including Spanish Colonial History, The Anasazi (Ancient Ones) and Southwest Traditions of Territorial New Mexico
The route will include: Colorado's San Juan Mountains (Southern Rockies) and historic San Luis Valley

DAY 1 La Ruta Cabeza de Vaca
Saturday, May 25
Like the entrada of Cabeza de Vaca, we leave the Gulf Coast, passing south of the Balcones Escarpment, across the Pecos River to the high Texas Plains. We will stay one night in El Paso.

DAY 2 La Ruta Juan de Onate
Sunday, May 26
We begin the day at the Chamizal National Memorial and follow the Camino Real through La Mesilla, Las Cruces and Socorro, and on to Albuquerque. We will stay one night in Albuquerque where those wishing to fly should arrange to meet the group.

DAY 3 The Zuni Trail
Monday, May 27
We will follow the ancient Zuni Trail to the Acoma Pueblo, also known as "Sky City," and to El Morro National Monument, or "Inscription Rock." We will stay one night in Farmington.

DAY 4 The Anasazi Road
Tuesday, May 28
We will visit a "great kiva" at Aztec Ruins National Monument and then travel to Mesa Verde National Park to see prehistoric dwellings, including Cliff Palace, Balcony House and Spruce Tree House. We will travel the western San Juan Mountains to Montrose, Colorado, where we will stay one night.

DAY 5 Otto Mears' Highway
Wednesday, May 29
We will follow the "Million Dollar Highway" through historic Rocky Mountain mining towns Ouray and Silverton, and then visit an ancient Anasazi observatory. Later we arrive in Santa Fe, where we will stay three nights.

DAY 6 Colonial Santa Fe
Thursday, May 30
We will visit several units of the Museum of New Mexico and historic churches from Santa Fe's Colonial and Territorial periods, as well as the historic plaza and the Palace of the Governors.

DAY 7 La Frontera
Friday, May 31
We will explore southern Colorado's Spanish frontier in the San Luis Valley and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The journey will take us to Taos, Truches and Chimayo, and to a spectacular overlook of the Rio Grande Gorge.

DAY 8 The Turquoise Trail
Saturday, June 1
We will follow the Turquoise Trail through historic mining villages and pueblo mission establishments crossing the Capitan Mountains on our way back to Texas, where we will stay one night in Lubbock.

DAY 9 The Llano Estacado
Sunday, June 2
We return to Houston across the staked plains.

Tentative price per person (based on double occupancy): $675.00
Single occupancy is available at additional cost.
Price includes hotels, transportation, admission to national parks and the Museum of New Mexico (Palace of the Governors, Santa Fe Museum of Fine Arts, Georgia O'Keefe Museum, Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture).
