Description

The purpose of the Guild is:
The Houston Storytellers Guild was founded in 1986 and has been called one of the most active and vital local storytelling organizations in the nation.
To promote the art, craft, and history of storytelling.
To provide a forum for the sharing of stories and storytelling techniques.
To assist local storytellers in developing skills.
To establish and maintain a network for collection and distribution of information on storytelling in the region, state, and nation.
To seek out and encourage a wide variety of storytellers among minorities, traditionalists, educators, and the clergy. To address the specific storytelling needs of members of the organization.
Membership in the Houston Storytellers Guild is open to anyone interested in storytelling and oral traditions. Members receive regular newsletters, as well as discounts on workshops and performances. Members of the Guild are also invited to join the regional Tejas Storytelling Association, sponsor of the yearly Texas Storytelling Festival, and NSN, the National Storytelling Network.
