A session is a group of musicians, from beginners to experts, who gather to play music. A session is NOT a performance for an audience -- the musicians generally are there to play with others, share tunes, meet with other musicians. An audience is not required, but always welcomed providing they do not distract the musicians from playing.
Those most commonly found in Irish and Scottish Traditional music -- fiddles, flutes, tinwhistles, bohdrans (traditional drum), along with some that aren't always thought of as traditional -- guitar, cittern, bouzouki, hammered dulcimer, harp, mandolin...once a hurdy gurdy, what fun! If you've got any kind of instrument, bring it, there will be a chance for you to play it.
