General Interest Meeting
Everyone is invited to attend our next meeting to learn more about Houston Institute for Culture programs, like Camp Dos Cabezas, our planned Cultural Crossroads Youth Education Program. Angela will update us on some important considerations concerning the camp as we prepare to begin this important cultural education initiative. The camp will pair mentors with deserving youth for a one-week exploration of the United States' and Mexico's diverse culture and history in southeast Arizona.

We will briefly discuss our September 11 Cultural Literacy Project to be held in conjunction with Collegium Live. Mark Lacy was asked to present the University of Houston's biannual forum and plans to include any Houston community organizations that would like to take part in the event, which will explore regional culture.

We will also discuss upcoming travel, which will include "Moundbuilders of the Ohio Valley", "July 4th at Ground Zero", "The Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC", "Yellowstone, the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains", and two fall trips to Mexico.

Please note: "Seminole Canyon Petroglyphs" has been postponed due to drought conditions and low lake levels in Amistad Reservoir. We hope to make the trip in early fall.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 7:30pm, at Cafe Piquet, a Cuban restaurant located at 5711 Bissonnet, in southwest Houston. To get there, drive about one half mile west of Interstate 610 on Bissonnet. As you are driving west, the restaurant will be on the left shortly after Chimney Rock in a yellow storefront center. Most of the traditional Cuban meals are served with white rice, black beans and plantains. The cost, if you add a drink, will range from $7 to $10. Call 713-521-3686 for directions or more information.
Those with special physical or communication needs that may impact participation in this activity should contact Mark Lacy at 713-521-3686 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting to discuss accommodations.
Requests for more information can be sent by email to info@houstonculture.org. Meeting updates through June 4 at 5:00pm can be found on the Internet at:
