39 Days Without a Hiking-related Injury
Yes, I am still hiking after the rock slide incident in the Ozarks. In fact, four of us just returned from San Miguel and Guanajuato where we had many lengthy adventures on foot in the steep hillside towns.

The San Miguel/Guanajuato Adventure
For those who may want to travel to Mexico in the near future, I will try to post a short description and of our adventures in Mexico's Colonial Cities, which took us to San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, the Toltec Pyramids at Tula, and Guanajuato. The trip was full of oddly contrasting sites: a chic late night disco on the left side of our hotel and an a round-the-clock Zapatista protest on the right. Film from the trip should be back in about a week so stop by for a visit. Posting this information on cultural-crossroads.com may take a few days, so please be patient.

Help Wanted
I greatly appreciate the help of those who have been pointing out broken or outdated links and sending me correct URLs, as well as contributing interesting information to my virtual organization, The Houston Institute for Culture. I try to get the information you supply up as quickly as possible. Who among you would like to be in charge of making some updates on the HIFC web page? It's really very simple. One of the current plans is to create an iconic Texas culture and history tour, including things such as Cabeza de Vaca, Cinco de Mayo, San Antonio Rose, Leadbelly, Kolachis and Shiner. Your suggestions are welcome.

Houston REI Store Clinics and Events
Due to an out-of-date link, I didn't have the current REI In Store Presentation Calendar. The presentation tonight is quite interesting. Here is Steve Cruser's description:
La Futura Slide Show, Tuesday, December 1, 7:00 PM
La Futura is the slide show you've been waiting for! It features the last seven years of development in El Potrero Chico, located an hour north of Monterrey, Mexico. This is becoming "The Winter Destination" for those climbers seeking warm, dry rock. Kurt Smith, has dedicated the last five years of his climbing winters to establishing the classics from 5.8 to 5.13+. This task is awesome when you realize that the Potrero holds numerous unclimbed walls ranging from 100 to 2500 feet. The Potrero is the "New Yosemite"; the rock is quality European limestone and the routes range from one pitch to twenty pitches!
La Futura covers the whole experience of the Potrero and Mexico. In addition to the climbing, the show will focus on the history, culture, and the people of Hidalgo and the surrounding areas. Don't miss this motivating slide show by professional climber, Kurt Smith. Seating is limited, so show up early!

Copper Canyon
Due to some recent and somewhat ongoing trouble in Copper Canyon, we won't be making a December trip and probably not a March trip. The recent train robbery you may have read about in the Chronicle is just the tip of the iceberg in that turbulent region. We will, it appears, make these trips to Chaco Canyon, Arches N.P., Bryce Canyon and the San Juan Mountains in the Four Corners region. Still great fun, without the hassle of idle U.S. border officials.

World Music on KTRU 91.7
Don't forget: Monday night at 7:00 pm. Having been away for a couple of weeks, I will surely be out of the practice of DJing, but given the volatile nature of KTRU, that is always the case.

Everybody might be just one big soul
Well, it looks that way to me
Everywhere that you look in the day or night
That's where I'm gonna be
That's where I'm gonna be
Where ever little children are hungry and crying
Where ever people ain't free
Where ever men are fighting for their rights
That's where I'm gonna be
That's where I'm gonna be
--Woody Guthrie, from "Tom Joad"
